The next alternative energy source in this series is all about compressed natural gas. CNG is a readily available alternative to gasoline and consists of mostly methane gas. It is derived from domestically drilled natural gas wells or from crude oil production. CNG also boasts a less expensive fuel cost – about 50% lower than gasoline or diesel and emits up to 90% fewer emissions than gasoline.
Compressed Natural Gas is also a fairly safe fuel according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency because of the strict standards placed on it. If there were to be a spill or accidental release, CNG will not harm land or water since it is nontoxic. This energy source is a good alternative as it is a clean, safe and domestically produced product. CNG is also abundant unlike other fuel supplies. There are many natural gas resources being found all over America with a 100 year projection of supply. So there are many benefits associated with CNG. The next step in this process would be to use compressed natural gas in more vehicles and providing proper funding for more CNG stations across the United States.
